Hundreds of thousands of years ago, mass sand deposits from the Limpopo river formed the Bazaruto Archipelago, which comprises four main islands - Magaruque, Bazaruto, Santa Carolina and Benguerrua.

Marlin Lodge is situated on the south western shore of Benguerrua Island, second largest of the four main islands that form the Bazaruto Archipelago off the Mozambican coast. This luxury private island lodge offers 17 sea-facing suites with direct access to the beach, a host of exhilarating activities and delectable cuisine.
Originally named "Sao Antonio" by Portuguese explorers, Benguerrua Island was later renamed after a local tribal chief and declared part of a National Park in 1971.

The island, which lies 14 km offshore from the Mozambican mainland town of Vilanculos. extends approximately 11 km in length and 5,5 km in width. From its sand dunes, savannah, freshwater lakes and wetland eco-systems, acacia woodlands and forests, Benguerua Island is a diverse ecological gem.

With over 2000 fish species and over a hundred coral species, a kaleidoscope of colour awaits you below the surface of crystal clear waters, while approximately 140 bird species steal the show on land. Indigenous cashew nut trees, casuarina trees that prevent erosion and wild orange trees, the fruit of which contains natural strychnine poison when green and can only be eaten when ripe, are just some of the trees on the island. Mlala palms are in abundance and the leaves are used for weaving mats, baskets and hats, while coconut palms are harvested for their fruit. Sisal plants are plentiful and used by the industrious locals, among other things to repair their fishing nets.

Hand built with Mozambican hardwood, reed-clad brick walls and thatched 'jecca' roofs create MARLIN LODGE that sits in perfect harmony with its pristine natural surroundings.

The natural plant life is carefully preserved by elevated wooden walkways that connect the 14 seascape Luxury Beach Chalets and three Executive Beach Suites to the main areas.
Attention to detail, soft, inviting furnishings and colours that reflect the lush island greenery and sparkling blue ocean, complete the picture. Guests can enjoy spacious accommodation, delectable food, rejuvenating wellness treatments and exhilarating explorations on land or under water.

At Marlin Lodge you are free to surrender to a nonchalant way of life. This is where time slows down and lasting memories of unhurried bliss are made. Rejuvenate and reawaken body and soul, and indulge in mighty Africa's most beautiful island refuge!

Marlins elegant wooden structures are beautifully integrated into the environment. The wood, reed, and thatch chalets, constructed on elevated stilts, offer an unspoiled view of the white beach and Archipelago Ocean.  In the living and dining area, one can retreat from the African sun, sip on a tropical drink, or lazily catch up on some reading.
The freshwater pool is set in a glade of Coconut and Ilala palms. Upon occasion, lunch is served here, creating an original African island setting.
Marlin Lodge's chalets and suites stretch along the beach of Flamingo Bay.  Each of thel 21 en-suite chalets are sea facing with a private patio and walkway to the white sandy beach.  The accommmodation is a blend of elegance and Africa beauty.  Decorated with a hue of creams, browns, burnt orange and slight blues, each reflects luxury and essential comfort.

There are four categories of chalets to choose from, the eleven Classic chalets, six Luxury chalets, one Luxury Suite, and three Executive Suites.  Guests are treated to the finest cuisine and warmest hospitality in a tranquil and friendly atmosphere.  All rooms provide mosquito repellant, net and overhead fan, with hairdryers also available in the chalets. There is no TV and mini bars are only in the Executive Suites.
The Classic Chalets are a unique blend of luxury and romance but with a rustic combination. The classic chalets have undergone a soft re-furbishment and have all received new linens, furniture and little extras.  The Classic Chalets all have a ceiling fan and mosquito netting with an en-suite bathroom.   The roof is thatch and the walls are clad with Mozambican reed, and all are west facing, towards the sunset.  Each Chalet has its own balcony with deck chairs as well as direct access to the beach in front of the room.

These rooms have four-poster beds, soft bedding, beautiful furniture, a ceiling fan as well as air-conditioning and many extras, as well as an en-suite bathroom.  The roof is thatch and clad with canvas to give a tented feel; the walls are a combination of washed plaster on brickwork and Mozambique reed. They are all west facing towards the sunset.  Of the 6 Luxury Chalets, four are in a family unit, whereas the other two chalets share a common balcony and walkway to the beach.

The luxury suite is the same as a Luxury Chalet but is more than double the size.  The suite has its own relaxing lounge area with a private bar as well as a separate casual lounge area, a spacious balcony and direct private access to the beach.  The Luxury Suite is ideally suited for guests seeking more space, privacy, style and luxury.  This suite features a king size, four-poster bed, air-conditioning, a ceiling fan, and en-suite bathroom.

These Suites are the most recently refurbished rooms.  Their size is about 100 square meters including the en-suite bathroom.  Each suite features two lounges, a built-in mini bar, two basin areas, a vanity area, plus inside and outside showers.  The bedrooms feature a king size, four-poster bed, with air-conditioning.  The patios have a hammock, sitting area, and private walkway to the beach.  These suites are the pride of Marlin Lodge and are aimed at the more up market traveler.  Maximum of 2 guests in a suite.
Imagine a private, sit-down dinner for two on your patio, watching the silver moon rising over a peaceful sea.
A visit to Marlin Lodge is a culinary delight... dinners range from semi-formal in the dining room, to tables laid out on the beach at the end of an avenue of palms and flaming torches.  Crisp salads, spicy poultry and limitless flovors of Mozambican seafood create a blend of Afro-Asia and Portuguese cuisine that is heaven to the culinary aficionado.
